PROKLETIJE

The Prokletije Mountains are part of the national park of the same name, also known as the Albanian Alps or the Cursed Mountains. They are a mountainous area in the western Balkan Peninsula, stretching from northern Albania to Kosovo and eastern Montenegro. The highest peak is Maya Jezerce (2694 m). They are mighty and inaccessible in winter. In summer, they are more accessible, but still not as massively visited as the Alps. Not to mention the culture, friendliness of the locals and excellent cuisine.

DURMITOR

Durmitor, the largest mountain massif and the national park of Montenegro, located in the north-west (NW) of the country, decorated with beautiful glacial lakes of emerald color, is certainly one of the most beautiful pearls of the Montenegrin mountain world. The park includes the entire mountain massif of Durmitor, Pivska lake with the peaks of Pivska planina, the upper parts of the Grabovica and Komarica canyon valleys, the canyon of the Tara river and its tributaries Sušica, Vaškovska river and Draga. The mentioned area was declared a national park in 1952. The highest peak of the Durmitor mountain massif is Bobot's kuk at 2522 meters above sea level. 18 glacial lakes show their beauty, which the locals call 'mountain eyes'. The largest and among the most beautiful is certainly Črno jezero (Black Lake), which got its name from the reflection of the tall coniferous forest that surrounds the lake, and the entire fairy-tale landscape is picturesquely dominated by the peak of Međed. The center of the park is the town of Žabljak, which is also the largest winter center in Montenegro. Durmitor National Park has been on the UNESCO list of world natural and cultural heritage since 1980, and the diversity of flora and fauna is simply exceptional.
